‍Commodore's Corner | ‍Hola Amigos!
Spring has sprung and the winds of Banderas Bay are awake!Â
Each year spring is an ideal time to look back on our primary season and begin planning for next fall and winter. Â
2024-25 was a season of great change for VYC with both joys and sadness. The loss of Commodore Randy Hough brought many tears and at the same time brought us all together in remembrance. This past season was also a very successful period with many new events, successful regattas, and a wonderful remodeling of our club with a nautical motif. We are fortunate to have many new members who have become engaged in our programs, events, and volunteered in many ways. Through all of our activities and changes our Manager Rudy and our staff have been there to “take care of us” and serve our wonderful new menu items and make us feel special! Â
Not to rest on our successes, our Board of Directors and teams are already well on the way to planning a more exciting 2025-26 season. It is tremendous to watch as more members have become involved in participating in the planning processes and volunteering to keep the high quality of our sailing events and exciting social environment alive. While many members have headed north and to far corners of our world during the summer, VYC is open and offering a special summer dining menu and events. The friendship and camaraderie that makes VYC our special place does not know the seasons. Its always there for us. Â
My motto for our continued success is paraphrased from the Captain Ron theme for last year’s BBR ……… If it’s going to happen, we will make it happen here! Join us in making it happen!

Larry and Yoshie did just that by hosting a fantastic thank-you party for our regatta volunteers—complete with live music from Bangity Bob! We danced, laughed, and reminisced to classic tunes, celebrating the incredible efforts of our volunteer crew. | Member Spotlight: Bart Goodell | ‍Meet Bart Goodell – Former Director of Junior Sailing, VYC
|  Let’s start with your sailing story — how did you first get into sailing, and what brought you to Vallarta Yacht Club? How long have you been a member? My family started sailing when my parents bought a 2 person sailboat. I was 10 years old. I joined Vallarta Yacht Club when I retired from teaching first grade and moved to Mexico in 2016. | |
| | | ‍VYC Ladies know how to have fun! | ‍ Twice a week, a group of VYC ladies organize at the club for lunch, cards, camaraderie, and plenty of lighthearted banter. It may take eleven decks of cards and look a bit complicated at first, but this lively group is always welcoming to newcomers—eager to teach them the ropes of Baja Rummy, VYC style. Â
Once you get the hang of it, the game becomes a perfect blend of strategy and relaxation—a great way to unwind while sharing laughs with friends. Â
Curious to join the fun? Come by for lunch, meet the group, and see why Baja Rummy at VYC is a tradition worth trying! Contact Annie Bloomquist with questions and latest schedule at secretary@vallartayachtclub.org |
